Heartiest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the brutal bomb blast at Ferozepur Road Lahore. I always try to restrain myself in putting the blame on the government and its incompetence because the terrorism is the most difficult thing to control and also, during last 4-5 years the terrorism significantly reduced because of the military action in North Waziristan and some other measures – although half-hearted – taken by the governments. However, I have a real issue with government’s attitude. The Defense Minister doesn’t talk to Interior Minister. Interior Minister keeps himself away whenever there is a terrorist incident. Most of the time he is angry with his party’s top leadership and expects sycophants in the party would go and beg him for the patch up. It was very disturbing when the people of Lahore were trying to salvage bodies of their loved ones from the rubble of the heinous murderous attack and Mr Interior Minister decided to appear in his “mysterious” presser to boast that he is cancelling the conference because of the Lahore blast. Why he had to go in front of media women and men to announce the cancellation? He could do it without going there. Because he wanted to make sure that his cancellation would not give the “wrong idea” to media about his “patch-up” with the top leadership of PML (N).
This attitude of the government’s Ministers is unacceptable. People gave them mandate to protect them and provide opportunities to have better lives. If the Minister, whose job is to implement NACTA and NAP, has such attitude, if for him his personal feuds with his top leadership are more important than the job he was assigned, then he must resign and find some other career. He was very prompt in making brouhaha when the leader of mass murderers Baitullah Mehsud was killed who murdered thousands of innocent Pakistanis, but when Pakistani people are in pain we find Mr Minister is angry with leadership and special envoys are shuttling around to bring him back.
Even having strong reservations with PTI and its leadership, I believe that Pakistani people must come out in 2018 elections and give a mandate to PTI and help Mr Khan to become the leader of the government. Not because I believe he is better person, or his party is any better than others, however — knowing his ways of politics and team of incompetents turn coats surrounding him — I have strong reason to believe – contrary to his supporters and worshippers – that he would not be able to resolve any problem, but I believe that if the governments would change after every 5 years, democracy would get healthy and resilient. It is true that an available lot of leadership in the government and the opposition may be predominantly incompetent and corrupt to large extent, however, there are the significant number of good people as well in all the political parties. The continuous election process and peaceful transitions of governments after every 5 years would open doors for new blood in the politics and democracy will flourish more. Political parties come and go, political leaders come and go, but the democracy is something to which our allegiances must lie. Pakistan’s unity and integrity are guaranteed with working, functional and resilient democracy.
